Course overview
The DHDS is the flagship undergraduate offering of LSH's Turner Department of Herbal Medicine, the leading evidence-based herbal medicine institute in London. Designed to give a comprehensive understanding of clinical herbology, pathophysiology, and herbal pharmacy and medicine, the DHDS is the best preparation for anyone intending to enter the wide field of herbalism.
This course provides graudates with a unique dual award, the Diploma Herbariae (Diploma in Herbalism) and the Diploma Sanitas (Diploma in health). This reflects the broad understanding of herbalism and evidence-based health and medicine that students will acquire throughout this course. The dual award system is a long-standing tradition in medicine our students can be proud to earn and display as a graduate of a leading scientific herbal school.
The DHDS exempts graudates from the examination requirements to become a Member of the College of Herbalists, allowing students to register with the General Herbal Council immediately after graduation.

Pre-clinical (Years 1 & 2)
The DHDS pre-clinical years are online and self-paced. The first year focuses on the principles of human sciences, building a foundation of knowledge for students as future practitioners.
The second year begins case-based learning, a modern teaching technique that examines the theory of clinical medicine and applies it to case studies throughout each module.
At the end of year 2, students have the opportunity to develop their research with an intercalated Associateship in Herbological Medicine, earning an additional qualification from LSH. Find out more about this
Clinical (Years 3 & 4)
Students continue with self-paced, case-based learning throughout the start of year 3, progressing to pick from a range of electives in herbal specialties of interest to them. During year 3, students will complete a 5-week clinical rotation with a qualified integrative pracittioner, developing and applying their knowledge of patient communication and management. They will then complete a 5,000 word research project on a topic of their choice.
In year 4, all students will complete a year-long clerkship. This can be arranged by the student or will be provided by LSH. In this students will learn to apply their theoretical knowledge to real patients, assisting qualified herbalists with consultations and the management of a herbal clinic. In combination with this, students will continue theoretical learning in further electives and advanced subjects.

Minimum requirements
Applicants must hold a degree or diploma in sciences, and be an existing integrative medicine practitioner.
If you do not have a degree at level 3 or above, it is strongly recommended you take one of our foundation certificates to provide the necessary grounding in science and botany for this course.
Recommended
3 A-Levels at BBB or above is recommended, including biology and chemistry. Other level 3 qualifications are acceptable.

Careers
This course provides a comprehensive theoretical understanding of herbology and herbal medicine, preparing students for further practical training, apprenticeships, or clinical practice.
Career options can include further study to become a clinical herbalist, as well as becoming herbal pharmacologists, academics, naturopaths, and more.
Please note this course is pre-clinical, and further clinical training is necessary to qualify fully.
Tutition
At LSH we aim to offer traditional learning for all. The DHDS is primarily delivered online and is self-paced, allowing flexible study and enrolment at any time. Clinical rotations and the year 4 clerkship necessitates 500 hours of in-person attendance, although students are welcome to arrange this local to them.
You will have 60 months of access to content from the date of enrolment. The tuition fee is £4575 per annum. Explore funding options
We aim to provide regular live tutorials and question-and-answer for students from independent specialist tutors, and students are welcome to contact their assigned tutor with for any questions or support.
Assessment varies by module, including exams, reflections, and essays. All assessments are online and open-book, but fast-paced to best reflect real-life problem-solving. A 5,000 word dissertation concludes third year. Students that are not able to, or choose not to complete this will be awarded a Certificate in Herbal Sciences. See more about our lower awards.
Additional information
This Diploma is awarded by the London School of Herbology, representing successful completion of a structured course of study and is recognised within LSH. It is not an academic degree eligible for credit-transfers and is not regulated by the OfS. The course is intended for educational and personal development purposes. Students are encouraged to use the knowledge responsibly and in accordance with local laws and healthcare regulations.
Accreditation
This course is approved by the College of Herbalists, exempting graduates from the Part A (theoretical) and Part B (clinical) examinations and clinical hour requirements, allowing students to become a Member of the College of Herbalists (MCH) and register with the General Herbal Council immediately after graduation.
