Turner Department of Herbal Medicine
Duration: 1-3 years (self-paced)
Award: LSH Diploma
LSH Course Code: DH02
The Diploma in Herbal Medicine (DipHM) is the flagship undergraduate offering of LSH's Turner Department of Herbal Medicine, the leading evidence-based herbal medicine institute in London. Designed to give a comprehensive understanding of clinical herbology, pathophysiology, and herbal pharmacy and medicine, the DipHM is the best preparation for anyone intending to enter the wide field of herbalism.
The DipHM begins with an introduction to herbology and the biomedical sciences, with modules in anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, phytology, and healthcare ethics to provide a comprehensive understanding of the human body, the role of herbalists, and the functions of herbs.
Students will then cover 3 core areas of herbal medicine (cardiothoracic, gastrointestinal, and reproductive herbology) and pick from a range of optional modules to cover other areas such as immunological, neuroendocrine, or renal and urinary herbology. Each will go in-depth on the theory of herbal medicine in the respective area, giving students a strong theoretical understanding of pathologies and how herbal medicine can be applied to them in a safe, evidence-based manner.
Advanced modules in herbal pharmacy and communication reinforce the theory of herbal medicine through teaching on the theory of how herbal concoctions are prepared, and how and how the ethical and practical considerations for advising and dispensing in professional practice are understood.
Finally, students will write a 5,000 word evidence-based dissertation on a topic of their choice, showing their knowledge and ability to critically analyse evidence.
